Langenstrass and SonsBlacksmith & General Engineering

We are a blacksmith and engineering business making light forgings and sharpening picks, moils and chisels.

We Sharpen

  • Moils - used in jack hammers

  • Chisels - used in jack hammers

  • Picks - used for garden and or farming purposes

When the moils and chisels are sharpened a set procedure has to be followed. All the moils and chisels have to be tempered (see explanation to the right). This process needs approximately two days to complete - depending on the size (amount) of the order. Please bear with the blacksmith shop with the time frame required for your order to be completed.

What is Tempering?

Tempering is a heat treatment technique applied to ferrous alloys, such as steel or cast iron, to achieve greater toughness by decreasing the hardness of the alloy. The reduction in hardness is usually accompanied by an increase in ductility, thereby decreasing the brittleness of the metal.
